Dryer not heating? Are towels and clothing taking too long to dry? These are two very common issues. A dryer not heating can caused by a variety of reasons. A dryer taking too long to dry, lets say the dryer needs to run two cycles to get items dry fully, is usually a venting issue. This can be caused by a pinched vent hose behind the dryer, a clog or stoppage in the vent running from the inside wall in the house to the outside. Depending on the design they can get clogged at areas where the pipe bends, near the pipes exit such as a rain cap on the roof or a pest/ animal screen or cage installed on the vents exit. These can cause lint build up. Also if rain enters the vent this can cause blockages in a similar way. In rare cases it could be due to the washing machine not spinning the water out the items fully. This is usually noticed by laundry being very wet when being removed from washing machine and put into the dryer. A clogged vent can cause damage to a dryer also. There are several reasons that can cause a dryer to not heat. The most common reason is a bad heating element or gas ignitor. Burnt wires, bad motor contacts, blown thermostats or fuses, 240v power issues such as the wall outlet being bad, the dryer cord being damaged, or the wiring in the circuit breaker box being faulty are a few more. Refrigerator not cooling properly? Freezer not cold enough? Are food items spoiling, melting or not staying fresh as long as they should? These are very common problems. Do you hear a clicking noise every few minutes? Are the sides of the refrigerator very hot? Is there any loud noises coming from rear of the refrigerator? If so this could be due to things such as a bad fan motor, dirty condenser coils, bad relay or overload on the compressor, or a bad compressor in general. Removing the lower toe plate on the front of the refrigerator can sometimes allow you to look underneath the fridge and see if there is a lot of dust, lint and/ or pet hair collecting around the coils. If so using an appliance brush and a vacuum hose to remove the debris can help you prolong the life of the compressor and possibly cause it to start cooling properly again. If the refrigerator has no power or strange error codes try to unplug it or turn the circuit breaker off for a few minutes. This can sometimes reset the unit and it may start working properly again. Another common issue can be food freezing in the fresh food section. This can be due to things such as a faulty sensor, bad fan motor, broken damper motors, or control board issues. Slow water when trying to fill your glass with the water dispenser? Have you changed the filter recently? If not that could be an easy fix!
